Market Report May 2025
NEW: Soybean oil with sustainability certification ISCC PLUS – compliant with QS-Soja Plus
We are pleased to be able to offer you soybean oil with ISCC PLUS certification with immediate effect. In the future, certified rapeseed and sunflower oil will also be available. The certificate from the international multi-stakeholder initiative ‘International Sustainability and Carbon Certification’ confirms that the six ISCC principles are fulfilled. These include:
- Protection of landscapes that harbour particular biodiversity or store particularly high levels of CO2
- Respect for human rights
- Safe working conditions
- Environmentally conscious production to protect soil, water and air
With ISCC-certified oils, we offer you as our customer the opportunity to practically implement sustainability in our common value chains. This often means achieving your organisation’s sustainability goals at the same time. As an animal feed customer, you also benefit from the fact that our ISCC PLUS-certified soybean oil will continue to be compliant with QS-Soja Plus beyond the end of 2025.
Vegetable oils
The supply of rapeseed from the old harvest remains tight in the EU and will not improve until the new harvest. The oil price remains at the same level due to a lack of new impulses. For the new harvest with normal to good forecasts, farmers are very reluctant to sell in advance due to unattractive prices. We see a similar picture for sunflower: stable price levels for seed from the old harvest, the availability of which is gradually decreasing, and solid expectations for the new harvest for the moment. Soy has recently been characterised by the trade disputes between China and the USA. We expect prices to fall in the short term. The situation between China and the USA may continue to cause volatility across the entire sector.
The markets for organic rapeseed and organic sunflower are tighter than in the conventional sector – there are hardly any quantities available, especially for organic rapeseed, and prices are correspondingly firm.
Palm RSPO
Production and export figures are rising. We advise covering until Q3. By then, the peak harvest phase may bring price corrections.
Palmkernel RSPO
Supported in the short term – better weather conditions favour harvests, at the same time high local demand in Malaysia. Cover is recommended until mid-2025 when higher stocks are likely to occur thanks to the stronger harvest months.
Coconut, including Rainforest Alliance certified grades
The tight supply in the major producing countries is supporting prices; the Philippines are considering reserving a quota for local demand. Our advice is to cover up to and including Q3/2025.
Organic coconut
Prices have risen globally amid high demand. Harvest estimates are below the previous year’s level. Prices are expected to remain stable at the current very high level in 2025. We advise covering up to and including Q3 – if demand remains at the current high level, the higher harvest figures from June/July will not have a price-dampening effect.
Groundnut
An unsettled market with no clear direction in view of outstanding harvests in several main producing countries. Our advice is to cover until Q3 at the currently still favourable conditions and to observe the market closely.
Pumpkin and organic pumpkin
There are still surpluses from the good 2024 harvest available for conventional products. The Austrian cultivation areas are likely to be expanded, while smaller quantities are expected from China. Overall, prices for conventional qualities could fall slightly. Organic quality, on the other hand, remains scarce and is trading with support.
Olive
Based on current global demand, carry-over is estimated to be sufficient – but not plentiful – until the next season. The signs for the coming harvest are positive so far, especially thanks to the good rainfall in Spain in Q1/2025. Our advice is to benefit from the current attractive price level to cover until the end of Q3, also in order to avoid future price increases, e.g. as a result of heat waves or increases in demand.
Maritime products
Marine oil, Omega-3, Friend of the Sea or MarinTrust
Fishermen in Peru started the season in the last week of April. The biomass is considered healthy, but the oil content is currently very low and the proportion of young fish is high. Current prices are attractive compared to previous years and lend themselves to longer-term contracts. At the same time, the 18/12 grades are sometimes limited in availability and correspondingly more expensive than the alternative grades EPA+DHA 25. However, we have all grades in stock, please contact us.
