Market Report March 2025

Webinar invitation: “From product quality to customer experience: end-to-end supply chain management”

New standards in terms of transparency, delivery reliability and predictability: This is what we strive to achieve at Henry Lamotte with closely networked, cross-departmental E2E supply chain management. We will demonstrate the role of supply chain collaboration with suppliers, service providers and customers and how modern technologies are shaping the future.

Join the webinar of the BVL – Bundesvereinigung Logistik [The Supply Chain Network], on March 19 from 11 am. You can register here. The webinar will take place in German.

Vegetable oils

The rapeseed market recently traded supported by demand from the food and biofuel sectors. There are no reasons for a downward movement before the new harvest; seed availability is limited. The outlook for sunflower also remains bullish, with prices currently above those of rapeseed and soy. One of the most important reasons is the low oil content in seeds from drought-affected regions. We advise covering requirements for sunflower and rapeseed now. The possible upcoming record soybean harvest in Brazil will influence the global supply of protein and oil. Brazilian soy will arrive in Europe from May at the latest. Possible price declines depend on the price development of competing oils.

Argan

Our discussions at the leading trade fair BIOFACH confirmed the clear picture of a seller’s market: Prices continue to rise, availability on the market is severely limited or even non-existent. Please contact us about your requirements, we have been able to secure limited volumes of some qualities.

Avocado

High demand is offset by low to very scarce supply, which we scrutinise strictly for quality. Regarding offers for the new harvest, the market is waiting for the first fruit purchases to be processed and the oil content to be announced.

Carnauba

A tight market in which some suppliers are no longer able to deliver. Prices from leading exporters have risen considerably since the end of November. Outlook: Comparatively low yields are expected from the coming harvest, while at the same time international demand is increasing. Our advice is to cover demand immediately until November 2025.

Almond

California’s harvest was less favourable than expected. As demand is increasing at the same time, shortages are expected in the second half of the year. We therefore recommend covering requirements until the new harvest at the end of Q3/beginning of Q4/2025. We are seeing a high price level in the organic sector due to a shortage of European raw materials. We can also offer you organic protein for the food sector – please do not hesitate to contact us.

St. John’s wort, organic and conventional

Our in-house production is nearing completion. We look forward to hearing about your requirements.

Olive

Good rainfall in January gives us hope for a more relaxed year compared to 2024. We advise covering two to three months in advance. For longer-term requirements, global demand and the weather should be monitored, particularly in April and May.

Sesame, refined

For India, one of the main origins of sesame, we are currently seeing significantly lower prices compared to the previous year. This is due to the high competitive pressure on the international market. Our advice is to take advantage of the current favourable prices to cover until the autumn harvest in September to October. The prospects for the 2025 harvest cannot be estimated at present – sowing begins in March.

Shea

A market with extremely lively demand and ever decreasing stocks. We are working closely with our long-standing suppliers to fulfil as many requests as possible. You should be aiming to be covered until the new harvest in autumn 2025.

Oleoresins

Capsicum

The peak harvest phase is now beginning in India. In view of positive volume expectations and comparatively high harvest surpluses from 2024, prices are currently below the previous year’s level. We also stock attractively priced goods from cultivation in the Chinese province of Yunnan. We will be happy to discuss your requirements with you.

Paprika

As expected, we are seeing slightly higher prices for the Chinese origin after the Chinese New Year. Storage and financing costs as well as loss of colour are factored in. This trend will continue in the near future, especially as demand is stable. The origin India is trading at a price premium to China. In India, the peak harvest phase is imminent. Increased harvest volumes compared to the previous year are expected. We recommend covering requirements now until the end of the season.
